Dear Parents
On behalf of the Governors of Burrough Green school I am delighted to inform you
that we have appointed our Acting Headteacher to replace Mr. Dennington on his
retirement in September. Two very good candidates were interviewed yesterday,
after which it was unanimously agreed Mr. Keith Archer was the most favoured for
the appointment
He is currently the deputy head at Meadow School, Balsham and will bring with him a wealth of hands on teaching, management and curriculum experience. Being part of our cluster group he already has experience of working with some of our teachers and our cluster schools feeding into Linton Village College - which is a distinct advantage.
As it is an Acting Headteacher post Mr. Archer will join us on secondment for up to a year. We believe that this will lead to Mr. Archer taking up the permanent post of Headteacher in the future. However, at that time we are legally required to re-advertise the permanent post nationally.
Yesterday he met our children and staff and toured the whole school. He is excited about taking over the reins from Mr. Dennington to drive the school forward to its next stage of development with the programme of the new build and raising our standards from good to outstanding.
The children played an active role in the interview process yesterday and many had the opportunity to meet the candidates. I have personally thanked them all today in assembly - but I would like you to share in the recognition that I am very proud to be Chair of Governors of such a wonderful school. The children were impeccable - their behaviour, manners and confidence in asking and answering questions, handling the disruption to the whole school over the day with timetables varied and visitors to their classrooms was a credit to everyone.
I also have to recognise the support and commitment fellow governors and staff have made in this whole appointment process which culminated with 5 governors giving up a day of their busy work schedules to be in school. All of whom reported what an enjoyable and valuable day they had experienced - my sincere thanks to them all.
The summer term will be a difficult one for us all - there will be tears and laughter - it will be long and have many ups and downs as we prepare for Mr. Dennington’s retirement and welcoming Mr. Archer . Please support the PTA who have some wonderful plans to recognise Mr. Dennington’s time here and celebrate the schools 300th anniversary.
If you would like to discuss any concerns or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely
Helen Coppen
Chair of Governors
