They are available to buy for only £3 and we've had a great response so far. We are having 150 copies made and have already had orders for 116! Money raised will go towards buying new books for the new school library.
Years 5 and 6 have been working with Cambridge University Press to publish a book as part of their business and enterprise scheme. Lots of activities to help them learn about the process of publishing were arranged and the diary of events described by Mrs Brewin can be viewed on links below.

Cambridge author, Tony Mitton, came and spoke to them, giving them ideas on how and what to write. They also had the opportunity to enjoy some of his poems, 'Plum' being perhaps one of his most well known poetry books.

Year 5 Maths Challenge 2010

11th May 2010 - We must congratulate our team of four, Zoe N, Hannah C, James N, George W who took part in the annual Year 5 Maths Challenge at Burwell School. There were ten teams in this heat and our team came 5th! Great teamwork! The tasks included:

1) A memory round where two of the team looked at a pattern and then had to describe it to the other pair, who then had to draw the pattern.
2) Looking at properties of shapes and identifying their names
3) Answering a range of questions such as estimating and finding fractions of different measurements.

Perhaps you could have a go at this: they had to estimate the cost of a few items of shopping. What would you guess to be the cost of -
4 toilet rolls, a small tin of baked beans, a double kitkat bar and 6 small packs of raisins? One team estimated over £20! (Their teacher thought they must be shopping at Harrods!) Our team estimated £11! Let Mrs Piotrowski know what you think it would cost.

Here are two of a wonderful collection of drawings by Class 4. It is worth visiting the classroom to view them on display. They have been working on powerpoint presentations of their recent visit to Denny Abbey where they had hands on experience of the 1940s lifestyle.
